SINGLE REVIEW - Vents Magazine
‘When I first witnessed a performance by Violeta, the maturity of her voice and her songwriting skills made an indelible impression on me,’ says US mega-producer Jeffrey Weber after witnessing the young Australian vocalist Violeta Bozanic take out the top prize at the 2018 junior vocalist award at the World Championships of Performing Arts in the US. Weber promptly began recording Violeta at United Recording in Hollywood, one of the most prestigious studios in the world. As well as recording with some of the most seasoned session musicians in LA, Violeta began collaborating with some in-demand writers too including Dapo Torimiro (John Legend, Stevie Wonder, and Justin Bieber) and Troy Laureta (Ariana Grande, David Foster and JJ Lin).
Jealous is the first track to be released from those sessions and is sure to blitz radio and streaming playlists all over the country. The song is a soulful, RnB tinged contemporary pop tune that ticks all the boxes; it has a great mid-tempo feel with Violeta’s incredible voice at the helm.
Beginning with an acoustic guitar part, the track soon settles into a solid groove, with Violeta’s voice at a low register invoking an emotional restraint that pays off by the time the chorus arrives. But the pre-chorus is equally as rewarding, with the full palette of Violet’s power and control taking over. The melodies are hooky, the rhythmic aspects steady and complimentary and the production serves the song beautifully. The lyric is honest and forthright with its nod to empowerment. There is a sophisticated edge to this track, with Violeta’s performance, going from understated to full-blown effortlessly, significant and undeniable. The dynamics of the arrangement suit the lyric, swaying from a questioning attitude to a more passionate and demanding one.
Violeta’s career highlights so far are outstanding achievements, yet there is no doubt Jealous is the track that will propel her into the next stage of her amazing musical journey.
